I am a sex worker of 25 years experience and met my partner, who lives with disability, through an activity funded through NDIS community participation activities – designed to extend and enhance community engagement with other adults in a sex positive safe space.
It wasn’t lawn bowls it was tantric dance.
We fell in love and have been together for some time leaving the initial meeting through the supports well behind us.
They felt that having access to funded supports gave them the autonomy to date and explore the world safely and having been a sex worker meant I had the skill set to understand physically we have diverse needs.
By not seeing that our group, the sex workers, have the social, emotional and physical skills to connect with those with lived experience of disability just misses the point – that everyone deserves a full and happy lived experience.
